Delegates

Solveig Wanczeck

Solveig Wanczeck (Head Delegate)

I participate at NMUN because I believe that it is a great way to get an insight into international politics and especially the framework of the United Nations. As a peace-promoting organization, the UNO always faszinated me and I am very glad to take part in the MUN now. Meeting students from all over the world and negotiating with them about important political topics will be a great experience and I am looking forward to it.

Committee: HRC - Human Rights Council

I find my committee topics interesting because human rights should lay within every action of mankind and should be existent beyond borders but obviously, they are not.  Seeing Palestine, the conflict urges for a quick and sustainable solution. Furthermore, climate change as a human rights issue is especially interesting as the world faces the threat of a rapid climate change, leading to the disadvantage of millions or billions of people all over the world. They will be certainly affected by draughts or floods and have to leave their homes. The last topic about securing food for everyone is also highly interesting as a big share of the world population still suffers from hunger and / or bad nutrition. Finding a solution and saving the lifes of these people is a high priority in international politics.

Sebastian Dengler

Sebastian Dengler (Head Delegate)

I participate at NMUN because I am convinced that negotiating as a country's delegate is a considerable better chance of seriously getting to know to the UN system, its proceedings and debated topics and, of course, certain countries' positions than only reading about all this in newspapers or "for fun". Furthermore I hope that the ideas developed by me and all my fellow delegates will be heard through the voice of this simulation. It is not only the future of professional diplomats but also, and perhaps even more, our future (nearly 45% of the world's population are younger than 25). Hopefully we will become better citizens of the world by trying to understand and defend points of view that sometimes will be very different from that one we are used to.

Committee: ASC - Additional Security Council

I find my Committee Topics interesting because firstly, the Situation in Afghanistan is obviously of high interest, especially from the United States’ perspective, since this conflict is virulent for almost 10 years now, binding both, international but especially US forces in the region facing various difficulties. Moreover the conflict revealed shifts in  international relations including the NATO. Secondly, the Responsibility to Protect (RtoP) could become one of the most powerful instruments in the scope of the United Nations, dealing with genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing. Although the Security Council has not explicitly based any decision on the RtoP until today, it is largely debated, whether UN decision structures, mainly the Security Council and the status of the five permanent members, have to be reformed in order to reduce biases from national interests. Thirdly, Climate Change and International Security are closely related mutually, as can be inferred from the fact that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, although the question whether the Security Council is the right forum. However, climate change can work as a threat multiplier, since the situation of already vulnerable people (e.g. those who lack access to fresh water) can get worse due to changing external conditions. This might trigger new conflicts or give current conflicts new dimensions (e.g. the fight for the Golan Heights) and therefore provides a large field of actions to be taken. Considering not only the importance, but also the multiple ways to address these issues, it is from my point of view fairly obvious that anyone capable of understanding the problems at hand should have an interest in learning about them and to search for possible solutions. Moreover, representing the United States gives us the opportunity not only to be heard but to be seen as providing leadership on all these issues, which I consider to be especially interesting.

I participate at NMUN (media team) because I was part of last year's NMUN delegation, and we had a lot of fun in New York! I'm really looking forward to repeating that experience, as well as topping last year's media coverage (it won't be easy). Also, I believe I will again be a good (second-row) co-organizer during the months leading up to the actual event, even more so since I now have been to the NMUN before.

I participate at NMUN because of my great experiences at NMUN 2010. To me, last year's conference was extremely inspiring and a lot of fun. I really liked to represent Sri Lanka in the GA2 and negotiate with members of delegations from all over the world.

I participate at NMUN because I think in our modern and globalized world, for us students it becomes more and more important to interact with people from different backgrounds, cultures, moral understandings and to have an objective glance at different opinions. In the end you have to communicate about serious problems, deal with them, negotiate and then find proper solutions for these complex issues. I think for this reason the NMun is a great chance, as the UN clearly is a place where problems and struggles from all over the world are discussed, especially difficulties from countries which normally are not big players on the international stage. Further on I think representing a country, which is not your domestic one, gives you the chance to have a close look at political issues from this country and by this meliorating your own political perception.

Committee: ECOSOC - Economic and Social Council Plenary

I find my committee topics interesting because in my opinion the discussion about economic and social issues is fundamental to establish social stability and peace. Especially in poor developed regions with a high number of displaced people caused by wars or natural disasters, social and economic stability are the most important tasks to guarantee the reconstitution of social life. Some countries do not have the ability to fulfil these tasks on their own, as countries like Haiti or Sudan indicate.

Tim Dressler

I participate at NMUN because there is nothing more fascinating than the idea of a world government established to fight for human rights, bring peace to war battered regions and unite the most different mentalities, cultures and ways of life under the ideal of harmoniously coexistence. Even though the UN never lived up to these expectations it has always been driven by these values, I’m too, and I bet that I’m going to meet a lot of interesting, fun people sharing that attitude at the NMUN.

Committee: GA1 - Disarmament and International Security

I find my Committee Topics interesting because since the end of the cold war we lost the conscience for the fact that there are still enough atomic bombs to destroy world’s biosphere ten times and that science and technology still continue to develop most perfidious methods of killing each other (there was not a single armed, but unmanned machine when the US attacked Bagdad, today there are nearly 20.000!). To prevent further conflicts that could be fought with these inhuman techniques, it’s necessary to continue the process of disarmament and to choose the right sight of the ambivalent role science plays in this. Especially, to forget Africa, a whole continent suffering under continuous civil wars, riots and instable political situations, is irresponsible in a smaller, more and more globalized world. To guarantee them a future that is characterized by economic prosperity and open-mindedness and not by blown off body parts, demining is important.

Max Eichinger

20 years old, 2nd Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because I think it is kind of interesting to meet new and different people from other countries and to talk to them about the topics the UN deals with. Because of the globalization, it becomes more and more important to know something about different countries and not just about your country of origin, so the MUN is a good way to get some information about other countries.

Committee: UNICEF - United Nations Children's Fund

I find my committee interesting because saving childrens' rights becomes more and more important nowadays. UNICEF is one of the biggest organizations and also one of the most important to fight for childrens' rights.

Lino Hower

Lino Hower

19 years old, 2nd Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because I am convinced of the importance of global issues and the methods and institutions that enable us to discuss and deal with them. According to the German idiom that says that it is easier to critisize than to do it better, I am looking forward to make some real exhausting and teaching experiences. I am sure that any of us "delegates" will take advantage in many different dimensions, most important personal grounding and associative thinking.

Committee: NPT - Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference

I find my committee topics interesting because the threat of nuclear weapons is obviously still important in terms of international terrorism and pending conflicts. More fundamentally it is to say that any possible conflict can't be solved in a senseful way if any involved party has the option to menace with total destruction. So it is necissarily every individuals interest to overcome this dilemma. Hence, nuclear weapons must be suppressed.

Niclas Huck

Niclas Huck

I participate at NMUN because I enjoyed the encouraging atmosphere at last year's NMUN, where I was part of the IAEA committee and learned a lot about nuclear weapon policy, diplomacy and negotiating. It was one of the most interesting experiences in my life so far and I made many new friends all over the world!

Committee: ASC - Additional Security Council

I find my committee topics interesting because they adress a broad context of international security issues, including some of the most threatening to our current state of security.

Stephan Jagau

20 years old, 4th Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because there are urgent economic, ecological, political and social challenges, that cannot be tackled by a single nation or group of nations, but demand a joint effort of nations on an international basis.
The enlightenment concept of a world government or federation, be it unattainable, nevertheless represents an ideal that each and every man should feel committed to. As I see it, the United Nations is the international organization that comes closest to this ideal.

Committee: GA2 - Economic and Financial

I find my committee topics interesting, because they represent some of the foremost issues that the UN should be concerned with. Securing the self-determination of the worlds peoples and the sovereignty over their natural resources marks a key step in overcoming the economic and social paradoxes of our time. Attaining a reasonable and stable solution to the imbalances of the external-debt situation of the world’s nations is another cornerstone regarding this aim. The implementation of a code of conduct for transnational corporations adds another perspective: In order that public commitment to the ends of ecological and social sustainability be of significance, private activities must thereby be shaped in a way that includes setting the according standards in everyday-life.

Benedikt Ketzler

Benedikt Ketzler

23 years old, 4th Semester Business Administration in Cooperation with KPMG

I participate at NMUN because I am sure that it is a unique opportunity to improve my skills in speech and presentation. Besides I am looking forward to meet interesting people from all over the world and to have a great time in New York, which is among my favorite places. In my opinion it is the combination of suspenseful topics, relaxed people and a great location that creates the special spirit of NMUN. For myself it is not the first time being part of a Model Parliament such as NMUN, since I have been a delegate at European Youth Parliament (EYP) and Model European Parliament (MEP) during my schooldays.

Committee: WIPO - World Intellectual Property Organization

I find my committee topics interesting because I believe that issues regarding to Intellectual Property have become more important than ever before. With more and more people being connected by the internet sharing files and data, we need a clear common sence of regulation. In my opinion WIPO is facing real challenges and I am proud of being part of it.

Inga Lange

Inga Lange

25 years old, Master of Finance

I participate at NMUN because I’ve been interested and curious about politics since my school days. At school one of my main subjects was politics. Then during my Bachelor study in business economics and now doing my Master in Finance at FS the subject politics was secondary, unfortunately. By taking part in FS MUN I get the possibility to combine my interests and knowledge in politics, with getting an insight in the UN work and getting to know foreign people, its culture as well as foreign countries. Moreover, by taking part in debates I can improve my debate skills. This will also be a great value for my future job.

Committee: HRC - Human Rights Council

I find my committee topics interesting because the committee Human Rights Council offers varies aspects like climate change, the political situtation in Gaza and global food crisis with regard to human rights. I'm looking forward to interesting and exciting debates at NMUN.

Bernadette Liessem

Bernadette Liessem

22 years old, 4th Semester Business Administration in Cooperation with KPMG

I participate at NMUN because I am convinced that it is a great experience to get into contact with students from all over the world.  Furthermore, I hope to get a better impression of the UN system by participating at NMUN, where it will be up to ourselves to find solutions about the great issues of our time, such as climate change, the economic crisis or the population growth. Finally I am convinced that NMUN will enrich our horizon in a way, that it will help us to think from a more global perspective and that we will be able to improve our skills in speach and presentation.

Committee: WIPO - World Intellectual Property Organization

I find my committee topics interesting because we are surrounded  by the fruits of human creativity and invention in our daily life. For this reason the importance of property rights is increasing more in a globalised world than it has some decades before. New technologies such as the internet and invention of better machines support the danger of misuse. That fact efforts that the property rights has to be protected by clear regulations and restrictions in every country. Therefore I think that it is very exciting to talk about these possibilities of regulation and discuss the different points of view about this topic, so that I am proud to represent Uruguay in this committee.

Fahad Malik

Fahad Malik

2nd Semester International Business Administration

I participate at NMUN because in a complex world like we have today I find it highly important and interesting to dispute about current economical, political and social issues of the world. For me, MUN offers the ideal platform to discuss about these globalized issues. Furthermore, I also hope to get an insight of the UN with all its duties and its procedures and to get a taste of the compexity of international issues and relationships.

Committee: GA3 - Social, Cultural and Humanitarian

Augustinus Mohn

Augustinus Mohn

4th Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because I believe that in a fast moving and global world, problems only can be solved in global negotiations. I can see no sense in trying to stop global warming for example on a national level, while other nations have no incentives for doing it as well. Therefore we need to have a forum for all nations of our earth in which even smaller nations get the opportunity to participate in negotiations. I want to get an impression of the UN’s work and I hope that this impression will be consistent with my image of the UN. I see the NMUN as a great chance where people can broaden their minds and get a different perspective for the consequences and coherences of their acting.

Committee: GA1 - Disarmament and International Security

I find my committee topics interesting because the energy we put in developing new weapons and as well as in producing them lead to nowhere. Sure one might say that war-industry generates jobs, generates growth – but for a sustainable economy and a stable and secure globalized world, we need to concentrate on the growth of peace, not the growth of the economy. Especially in Africa can be shown that war-industry does not generate economic growth. A continent which suffers under civil wars for decades could perhaps develop in different ways if there weren’t any machine guns. This may sound naive, but in a world without modern weapons and weapons of mass destruction, nations could trust each other more likely again. Therefore, it is important to get the so-called developed countries and underdeveloped countries to one table where they can discuss their needs, their future politics and their problems.

Doreen Pietzsch

20 years old, 4th Semester International Business Administration

I participate at NMUN because I am convinced that it is the best opportunity to get a closer look upon international concerns including economics, politics, and the organisation which combines all those topics. The possibilty to participate in discussions with people from all over the world on the view of another country is one of the most exciting things I hope to experience in New York. Further, it is a unique chance to practise one‘s arguementative skills as well as getting to know people with the same interests and understand international relations much better by attending the NMUN.

Committee: UNICEF - United Nations Children's Fund

I find my committee interesting because UNICEF is worldwide one of the most important institutions for saving the rights of children. As children are our future their concerns of health, education and nutrition have to have top priority all around the world and I really look forward to commit myself to those topics in the NMUN.

Sabrina Ruhnau

Sabrina Ruhnau

22 years old, 4th Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because in my opinion most of the current problems in the world need to be discussed and solved by a strong international organization, which takes in account that every country has its own interests and therefore has to make a contribution to show its responsibility. The initiative offers us all the opportunity to gain argumentative abilities and an impression how such meetings among such a diversity assembly are supposed to work. Furthermore it will be a great experience and I am looking forward to learn something important about international relations.

Committee: UNEP - United Nations Environment Programme

I find my committee topics interesting because water shortage will become a more  immediate topic in future, considering  the potential for international conflicts. Above all the urgent need for negotiating a new agreement after the Kyoto- Protocol to react to the climate change.

Andree Stryewski

Andree Stryewski

20 years old, 2nd Semester International Business Administration

I participate at NMUN because  I´m greatly interested in politics and current affairs. In school I learned a lot about the aims, the construction and the tasks of the UN, but you never really learn how a session proceeds. For me NMUN is a opportunity to get an insight in the work of the Committees.

Committee: OAS - Organization of American States

I find my committee topics interesting because they comprehend the most important topics and some of the biggest problems of the American States.

Claire Thührwächter

Claire Thürwächter

18 years old, 2nd Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because because I took part in the MainMUN of 2010 and enjoyed it a lot. Mostly, I liked to experience the athmosphere of being part of a body like the UN in it`s high complexity. By doing research on the different issues, as well as the delegation´s country I could learn a lot about foreign relations and other cultures. Furthermore I think the NMUN will be a memorable experience, as we will be dealing with topics of utmost importance in concert with students from all over the world.

Committee: CCPCJ - Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

I find my committee topics interesting because international crime is an issue of high importance, especially for poor and vulnerable countries. Therefore, it also concerns the richer countries, as it is in everyone's interest to strengthen the combat against international crime and induce international stability.

Carl Anton Waldeck

Carl Anton Waldeck

I participate at NMUN because I like to work with people of my age from around the world in order to see problems from different perspectives and to learn about the United Nations as one of the worlds most powerful organisations.

Committee: NPT - Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference

Marc Wiebusch

Marc Wiebusch

21 years old, 2nd Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because I like the idea of discussing global problems with students fromall over the world. It will help to understand foreign views on international politics and issues. Besides, it is a great experience to go to New York with the Frankfurt School delegation.

Committee: ECOSOC - Economic and Social Council Plenary

I find my committee topics interesting because I think the balance between the economy and social responsibility is fundamental in the modern world. It is also important for the stability in many countries, especially in poorly developed regions. To solve the problem of displaced people and armed conflicts, it is necessary to guarantee social stability and a perspective to the people.

Andreas Ziegler

Andreas Ziegler

20 years old, 2nd Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because I’m interested in global politics, especially economical topics. By participating in the FSMUN-initiative I want to improve my understanding of the close ties of modern countries and how they can affect national affairs. I also believe that discussing a variety of topics with such a diverse group of people is very interesting and will help me to gain insight to current affairs from a different point of view and think critically. Apart from that, I believe that the UNO is a great institution to ensure peace and especially to give a stage for problems of smaller countries, which might be too unimportant or undeveloped to be able to communicate their matters on their own.

Committee: GA3 - Social, Cultural and Humanitarian

I consider my committee topics to be especially interesting, as the decision at which point the intrusion into personal freedom is justified due to threats like terrorism, is one of today's most complex questions. Additionally, the development of solutions for problems deriving from drug production, trafficking and abuse is a topic that can only be solved by various countries working together.

Moritz Ziegler

21 years old, 2nd Semester Management, Philosophy & Economics

I participate at NMUN because the idea to simulate the business of the United Nations with thousands of young people from all over the world seems very appealing to me - for various reasons. Firstly, from experience in the MUN The Hague I know, that the get together between students from nearly all countries is one of the most extraordinary experiences one can make, since that kind of contact opens your mind for other cultures and nations. Secondly I am of course interested in the idea of global interdependent politics and good governance and the MUN gives me the ideal chance to practice rethorical skills.

Committee: GA2 - Economic and Financial

I consider my committee topics to be especially interesting because to me, installing successful and ethical policies to create sustainable development is not only a question of moral superiority but also of simple economics. Sustainable development can only be achieved if the global economy is balanced. This balance can only be established if developing countries are helped to implement successful external debt management and instruments to achieve sustainable economic growth. Simulating the efforts of the UN tackling this subject thus is very interesting to me as it offers new possible solutions to complete my individual opinion about the subject.
